Pre Learner Course: Your first step in motorcycle licensing

To get started on your motorcycle journey in Queensland, you need to undertake the Pre Learner course. This 2-day mandatory course must be completed before taking the Motorcycle Knowledge Test with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Purpose of the Pre Learner Course:
Designed to equip novice riders with fundamental riding knowledge and motorbike handling skills, this course ensures you learn in a secure setting before hitting the road.

Course Completion:
After successfully finishing both days and being assessed as competent, you can proceed to take the Motorcycle Knowledge Test and apply for your Motorcycle Learners Licence.

Is This for You?
If you're yet to obtain a Queensland motorcycle licence, the Pre Learner course is your starting point.

Entry Prerequisites:
- A provisional or car licence held for at least a year.
- If you're a complete beginner in riding, consider our Learn to Ride course first.

Course Highlights:
- In-depth training, covering: basic motorcycle operation, roadcraft tactics, developing a systematic approach to cornering, slow-speed manoeuvres, understanding steering on a motorcycle, developing a consistent smooth braking technique (a life saving skill), judgement, right of way procedures, strategic riding, and simulated road rides.
- Experienced instructors from NQ Ride will guide, correct, and hone your riding techniques.
- The course blends theory, demonstrations, hands-on coaching, and lots of practice time.
- Personalised feedback ensures experiential learning.

Post-Course Licensing Steps:
Once deemed competent post the Pre Learner course, you can take the Motorcycle Knowledge Test. This test is available online or directly at the Department of Transport. After holding a Motorcycle Learners Permit for at least three months, you become eligible to upgrade to a Restricted Motorcycle Licence (RE O). Before booking your Restricted Motorcycle Licence Course you must have completed the Queensland Motorcycle Hazard Perception Test

Clothing Requirements:
While NQ Ride provides motorcycles for the lesson, ensure your attire is appropriate.
- Wear long trousers/jeans, socks that cover ankles, and enclosed shoes (sneakers are acceptable).
- Helmets, gloves, and jackets are a must; however, if you don't own them, we can supply them free of charge for use on the course.
